Today is a big day for many young hockey players out there. They eagerly wait to see which team they will have an opportunity to build a career with.
The dream starts today for Nathan Mackinnon, the wunderkind of the draft. It’s Seth Jones’s big day, who has the opportunity to become the first African American to be drafted number one overall in the NHL. But don’t forget about Nathan Walker, who could become the first Australian drafted this year.
We get to see our future as well. Will we go with a big defenseman, or a small center? Will he be a bruiser, or play with grace?
No matter the case, they are all welcome with open arms into the Caps family. We will give a big round of applause as we watch on our televisions, excitedly thinking of the future. We will google them, youtube them, check to see they are on twitter, and no matter what we see, we will claim they are the next superstars of the Caps. And why not? They have an opportunity of a lifetime, and we support them 100 percent of the way.
So as these kids sweat through the biggest day of their young lives, let’s sit back and appreciate all of their hard work. Let’s celebrate this great day for all of these guys. And to all of you Caps fans, have a happy, happy draft day.
(P.S. I will be leaving for vacation for the next week, and will most likely not have internet access, so this is the last you will hear from me for a while. Have a great start to the exciting part of the offseason!)
