What you are about to read is a rant from a very pissed off Caps fan. Viewer discretion is advised.
WTF. What on earth is going on with this team?
Why are we losing BADLY to BAD teams?
Ok, ok. Yeah. Colorado is starting off hot. Chicago was understandable, and ultimately was a close game. Dallas was pretty pathetic. Oh, and how impressive was our over time win against Calgary?
I mean, does this start honestly shock you? Have you just grown used to the Caps just completely $^&*(*%# the bed when it comes to ANY sort of game of significance?
Every single year we get our hopes up. The whole "this is our year" motto.
Well guess what....we keep playing like this for much longer, this most certainly is not our year.
How on God's green earth are we supposed to fix what we are seeing. Who is the one to blame? Is it the players, is it Oates, is it McPhee? I have no idea. But let me at least attempt to voice an opinion of how to fix this damn mess of a hockey team.
Actually no, I take that back. It is far too late to fix the issues this team has, so let me just state the obvious.
-We have three NHL-caliber defenders. Literally three. Alzner, Green and Carlson. That's it. How on earth are you going to win any sort of hockey game if you have three defensemen worth being there? Carrick is too young, not experienced enough and not ready. Erskine should not be playing 2nd line defenseman minutes. I do like Urbom, but again, he's third line defenseman at best. Do you see a trend here? What do you possibly think I'm going to say for Oleksy? Or Schmidt? WE HAVE A TEAM FILLED WITH 3RD LINE DEFENSEMEN AT BEST. And we can't magically turn them into second liners, it's just not going to happen. And for that matter, has Alzner and Green been a fantastic shutdown pairing for us? Lets take our Caps blinders off and think for a second. Would they be first line defensemen on ANY good hockey team? I'm starting to have my doubts....
-WE ARE GIVING UP FOUR GOALS A GAME. Is it entirely Holtby and Neuvirth's fault? Probably not, because like I said earlier, the defense is just a complete joke. But I mean some of the goals they are giving up are soft. Just soft.
-Name someone on the team who's name doesn't rhyme with Brovechkin, Lewinsky or Nordstrom who has a goal. If you said Fehr and Chimera, give yourself a gigantic pat on the back. Not including Carrick, because he's not on the team anymore, we have had five people score a goal. Five. Where's Brouwer, who currently has an impressive zero points? Where is Laich, who has an equally impressive zero points? Where is Erat, who has an outstanding zero points. OH YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT! WE DON'T USE THE 4.5 MILLION DOLLAR MAN AS A SCORING FORWARD. We instead put him on the fourth line, which he has stated he hates, and give him no time at all. That is insane.
-We can't afford to play catch up in the Metropolitan Division because the teams are not as bad as the Southeast Division was. Duh. And if we keep this up for just a little bit longer, we are in for a rude awakening this season. Because this division will punish us immensely.
-And if this trend does continue, something has to be done. Something big. Remember last time? We fired Boudreau. Now, I don't think we will fire Oates, but could it possibly be a big name player to give these guys a wakeup call? Or could it even be George McPhee himself? Maybe.
I'm done. I completely just wore myself out. I literally just got so mad thinking about this team that I got a head ache, sat on the ground in the corner of my room and counted to ten.
I hope we can just sit back in June and laugh at how dumb this post was. You can all comment on the post as we giggle at the thought of reaching the playoffs and tell me how I just should have given them time. You will call me names, insulting my knowledge of the game and probably my manhood. But what I am concerned of is that for once my predictions and analysis is not wrong.
If we keep this up, we will not even come remotely close to the playoffs. And something, I have absolutely no idea what it is, but SOMETHING has to change, and it has to change yesterday.
